A project by Jasmina Llobet and Luis F. Pons
Snowflake, the one-of-a-kind albino gorilla from the Barcelona’s Zoo was an emblem of the city and a “living” tourist attraction for many years. He was so much a symbol for Barcelona that he was proposed to be the mascot of the Olympic games in 1992. It was then decided that, due to his high age and risk of dying, the city should have a different mascot. But Snowflake didn’t die for another eleven years. He grew older than most gorillas (almost 40 years) and spent all his life in the Zoo of Barcelona. We wanted to pay homage to Snowflake and to the story of his life.
The installation contains an information point, an (unofficial) souvenir shop, a documental video of his life and architecture models for unusual public memorials.
